Micro-Partitioning
A POWER5-era virtualization capability allowing a single physical processor core to be divided into multiple logical partitions at sub-whole-processor granularity.
Micro-Partitioning, introduced with POWER5 in 2004, let a single physical processor core be shared across multiple logical partitions in increments as small as one-tenth of a core, a major advance over the whole-processor partitioning that preceded it. It became a foundational capability of what IBM later branded PowerVM.
