IBM i

The current name of the operating system that ran the AS/400 as OS/400 and later i5/OS. Renamed to IBM i in April 2008, alongside the Power Systems brand unification.

IBM i is the operating system descended from OS/400 (1988) and i5/OS (2004), renamed a second time to IBM i in April 2008 as part of the Power Systems unification. Power5-generation hardware tops out around IBM i 6.1, well behind current releases.

System i

IBM's rebranded name, from 2006, for the eServer i5 product line, before the 2008 unification into Power Systems.
