Complete System p map

IBM System p POWER5 Model Map

Match every IBM p5 and System p POWER5 machine type to the model name people used, then carry the exact code into parts, support, operating system, and migration work.

The name on an old purchase order is not enough. Use the full machine type and model from the server label or IBM record because p5 520, 52A, 550, 55A, 570, 575, 590, and 595 are different planning records.

IBM System p POWER5 and POWER5+ machine types

Model names follow IBM's POWER5 system documentation.

A machine-type match identifies the family. It does not prove the processor feature, activated capacity, installed memory, storage, adapters, operating system level, or recovery condition.

Four things to capture after the model matches

1. Capacity

Record processor feature, processors installed, processors activated, memory installed, and real peak use.

2. Partitions

List every AIX or Linux partition, shared processor pool, virtual adapter, and VIOS dependency.

3. Connections

Record internal and external storage, tape, network, SAN, drawers, and special adapters.

4. Recovery

Prove backups can restore the operating system, application, data, security, and the connections around them.

If the label is hard to read, enter the partial code in the decoder and then confirm the result from AIX system commands, the HMC, or the IBM configuration record.
